The Bloomberg Center on Roosevelt Island bridges academia and industry experience while pioneering new standards in environmental sustainability. The four-story building is one of the three first startup incubator campuses for Cornell Tech.
As sustainability consultants, we worked with Barr & Barr, employing multiple strategies to achieve LEED Platinum Certification and Net Zero Energy Status.
Sustainable features include:
- All-electric renewable energy to power building systems, keeping the building free of fossil fuels.
- Smart building technology providing on-demand power to respond to user needs such as lighting control, occupancy sensors, security, and other building controls.
- A low-maintenance green roof with native plants to help cool roof surface and manage stormwater runoff.
- A 40,000-gallon rainwater harvesting tank providing non-potable water for the building’s plumbing system, cooling tower, and on-site irrigation.
